Vitamin C... Even Better Than You Thought
You eat well. You certainly
get at least 60 milligrams of vitamin C every day from the fresh fruits and
vegetables in your diet. Since that's the RDA, you're sure that you won't get
scurvy. On the other hand, you've read a lot about the benefits of ingesting
extra vitamin C -- amounts equal to more produce than you would willingly eat
in a day. You want all those advantages, so you take vitamin C in supplement
form. Well, you little smarty, that turned out to be an even better idea than
you thought.
A recent study compared
people like you who eat adequate vitamin C and also take vitamin C supplements
with people who eat sufficient C but do not take supplements. Guess what?
During a 10 year period of time, there was a much lower death rate among the
people who took supplements. The difference in deaths from heart disease was
particularly marked. In fact, the findings suggest that vitamin C provides
greater protection against heart disease than either having low blood
cholesterol or eating a low fat diet."
I believe that vitamin C is a
panacea substance that will benefit you no matter what is wrong with
you."(Linus Pauling)
