CoQ10: The Key to Good Health and Energy
Coenzyme Q10 has been acclaimed as one of
the most exciting nutrient discoveries of our time. CoQ10's essential role as
a coenzyme in the production of energy is just the beginning of the benefits
this remarkable nutrient provides.
Since 1957 when CoQ10 was originally
isolated by Dr. Fred Crane of the University of Wisconsin, studies have shown
it to be effective in strengthening the heart, lowering blood pressure,
enhancing the immune system, and protecting against periodontal disease. It is
an antioxidant with all the attending benefits, plus it has been useful to
people with AIDS, cancer, diabetes, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Considering
all these health advantages, the implications of also using CoQ10 to enhance
longevity become obvious.
Key to Energy
The primary function of CoQ10 is as a catalyst to
the creation of energy on a cellular level. Each of our cells contains
tiny energy generators called mitochondria. The mitochondria produce 95
percent of our total energy needs. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the basic
energy molecule of the cell. CoQ10 must be present for the synthesis of ATP.
Studies have shown that if levels of CoQ10
decline by 25 percent, our organs and systems will not have the energy they
need to function correctly. Major ill health and disease states are the
result. A 75 percent deficiency is fatal. On the other hand, using CoQ10 to
correct a deficiency state has an overall rejuvenating effect on the body.
