One out of every two Americans is overweight ...and the number is growing. Obesity threatens to overtake smoking as the nation’s leading preventable cause of death, currently contributing to approximately 300,000 deaths annually. This number shows no signs of abatement. We can read the future in the growing number of overweight children. The situation with America’s youth is so alarming that it recently made the front page of the Los Angeles Times.

The truth is we pay the piper when we don’t take care of ourselves. Our risk of death increases exponentially with increasing weight. Overweight persons are far more likely to develop heart disease, some cancers, diabetes (overweight is related to 97 percent of adult cases), high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, and gallstones.

When we get sick (and the percentages say we will), our costs in time, money, and emotional suffering will feel as astronomical as the billions of dollars and millions of hours it is currently costing us as a nation.

You simply must set your intent on good health.
