A very informative book on the subject is by Michael Murray, ND "5-HTP The Natural Way to Overcome Depression, Obesity and Insomnia". He suggest starting out with a dose of 100mg 3 times a day with a max of 300mg 3 times a day. With a lower dose I didn't notice much. I am now at 200mg twice a day and feel much better. My mood has lifted, it helps with binge eating and craving carbs and I am able to go into a deep sleep at night, going to sleep as soon as I hit the pillow. I'll never be without 5-HTP. I have started several friends on it also with good results.
