Mission
We believe that helping people to become healthier and happier enables
them to contribute more of themselves for the betterment of the world we all share.
Nutrition News exists to set the standard for popular nutrition reporting, to teach by
getting the information to the largest number of people possible and to support the
nourishing of the spirit.
To that end, we do our best each month to publish an interesting, accurate, timely
newsletter, to make difficult to understand topics easy-to-understand, to promote basic
principles of good health and nutrition, to remain an independent source of information,
to never promise any magic pills.
Bios
Siri Dharma "Siri" Khalsa became interested in nutrition while
still an elementary school teacher. After receiving her Life Time Teaching Credential from
the State of California, she retired from teaching and worked for several years writing
advertising copy. In 1976, she was invited to create an educational handout for a large
independent health food store, and Nutrition News was born. Ms. Khalsa received her B.A.
from California State University at Long Beach. Her MA in psychology is awaiting her
dissertation. She has taught kundalini yoga and vegetarian cooking classes for the
University of California.
Gurumantra "GM" Khalsa's interest in nutrition began in the 60's while a student
at the University of Wisconsin. In 1979, he read his first issue of Nutrition News and was
greatly impressed. Through mutual friends, he was introduced to Siri Khalsa and begged for
a subscription. At that time, subscriptions were not available to individuals. His
persistence and his suggestions about how to make Nutrition News more readily available
resulted in an offer to move to California and take on that responsibility. Having bigger
ideas and greater ambition than that, Mr. Khalsa married Ms. Khalsa in 1982 and became the
publisher of Nutrition News the following year. Mr. Khalsa holds a B.A. from University of
Illinois, Chicago Circle. He also has taught kundalini yoga and vegetarian cooking classes
for the University of California. He remains an enthusiastic reader.
